ABOUT LORAN NICASTRO
Loran's career in health care began in NJ, at William
Paterson University, where he earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in the field of Health Sciences in 1988.
From there, he would eventually go on to pursue the
field of alternative & complimentary healthcare, in
which he continues to study to this day.
In 1994, he completed his initial certification in
Massage & Bodywork. Later that same year, he became
nationally certified with the National Certification
Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, and has
since advanced that to board certification. Before 1994
ended, he also earned his certification in
Neuromuscular Therapy, from the pioneer in that
modality, Paul St. John.
The following year, Loran established and opened The
Essex Group Institute for Massage and Bodywork,
which was approved by the NJ State Department of
Education. For eight years, he was the owner/operator
and head instructor of the institute, developing and
teaching courses in a variety of subjects.
Throughout the years, Loran has earnestly studied the
medical aspect of the Massage & Bodywork
profession, and again, with the pioneers of those
particular and unique disciplines. Some of his more
noteworthy teachers include:
• French osteopathic physicians Jean-Pierre Barral and
Alain Croibier (evaluation techniques; visceral, neural,
and arterial manipulations; physical traumas; emotional
connections);
• French medical doctor and osteopathic physician
Bruno Chikly (evaluation techniques; lymph drainage
therapy; lymphedema/complex decongestive
physiotherapy; brain & spinal cord treatments; chronic
fatigue/fibromyalgia protocols);
• American osteopathic physician John Upledger
(evaluation techniques; craniosacral therapies).
• Also, in 1997, Loran had the opportunity and the
privilege to participate in a six-day intensive hands-on
human dissection/gross anatomy course at the
University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark NJ.
Loran has been a professional medical bodywork
practitioner for the last 28 years, and continues to
study, practice, and teach, focusing on this alternative
& complimentary form of healthcare. Over the course
of those years, he has gained considerable knowledge
in anatomy, physiology, and pathology; acquired a
great deal of indispensable clinical experience; and has
significantly honed his evaluative and treatment skills.
Although a lot can be accomplished through the
treatment sessions, Loran believes in addressing the
person holistically, taking into consideration all aspects
of their health and well-being. He truly feels that this is
the most ideal approach, in order to achieve the most
optimal results.
When not working, Loran enjoys numerous physical
activities in the great outdoors, traveling and exploring
the countryside, and engaging in various musical
interests.
